5th/10th Community Challenge April 2014
On Saturday 26th April Scouts
and Leaders from 5th/10th Horsham Weald Scouts spent four
hours clearing litter, cutting back the undergrowth to open up the paths and
collecting wood for a fire woodpile.
The work at Kingslea Primary School was to improve the
wooded area around the school field and to make the area more usable.
Nigel Powling (Scout Leader) said ".... it was good to get the Scouts
involved in doing something for the local community and it also counted towards
their Community Challenge Badge. The plan is to make this an
annual event to help Kingslea Primary School and its pupils".
Well done to 5th/10th for taking the initiative to get involved with the community.

Scouting for All - 2018 - Get involved
Scouting in Horsham Weald District has seen another year of growth.
Total membership topped 1000 children, youths and adults at the 2014 census in January.
This is good news for all those who are already involved in Scouting.
The truth is however they are the fortunate ones.
Every week enquiries from parents who recognise the value of Scouting in the lives of young people and want their own children to get the same opportunities have to be turned away because there are not enough adults to help provide the Scouting programme.
We want to do something about this but can't without other adults who want to help develop our young people as effective citizens and leaders for the future.
There are many opportunities for adults to volunteer in Scouting.
It could be as a leader which requires making a commitment to help run a Section (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers) with others on a weekly basis or as a manager bringing work experience and skills to oversee a group of leaders or as a supporter to help ensure the operational and financial viability of a Scout Group or District.
Other skills such as technical, information technology, maintenance, risk assessment and safety, administrative and financial, are all required to ensure the successful delivery of the programme to as many young people as possible.
Working with young people in Scouting is challenging, exciting and rewarding. It offers a values based programme which has long term benefits for our young people and the adults who are involved.

Horsham Scouts St George's Day Parade - 2014
Hundreds of family members, other supporters and curious onlookers lined the streets on Sunday 27th April to see more than a thousand Scouts parade and make the annual renewal of our Promise at the bandstand in Horsham Carfax.
Despite the odd shower weather it was a colourful spectacle which was lead by 1st Broadbridge Heath Scout Group. The parade was accompanied by Horsham's British Legion Band and were reminded of the role Scout played during the 1st World War to support the war effort.
A collection was taken - the proceeds of which will go to support the 'Scouting Memorial Project' campaign to erect a national memorial in honour of all Scouts who have made the ultimate sacrifice in armed service of their country.
