Horsham Scouting Helps Young People with Think Family Project

We are delighted to announce that the West Sussex Scouts has entered an agreement with the Think Family Project, coordinated by the West Sussex County Council and run alongside the Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust, District Councils and Sussex Police.

Our Part to Play
The Think Family Project aims to help vulnerable families change their lives for the better. The best part for us however is that young people from these families may now have the exciting opportunity to join Scouting in their local community.
But how does Scouting make a difference? West Sussex Scouts County Commissioner, Irene Orford recently stated, “Scouting helps change lives by equipping young people with practical skills and valuable life experiences, so a partnership between us is a natural fit. By working together we'll be able to provide Scouting adventures for some of the most in need young people in West Sussex."

The Next Steps
It is extremely rewarding for us to get recognition from participating authorities on the positive impact scouting has on many young people’s lives. We feel that going forward with this agreement will only serve to spread this message further.
Scouting can have a huge part to play in the lives of children, young people and their families. Therefore we are excited about the possibility of meeting more people within the community who could be offered the chance to join in with all that scouting has to offer.

Horsham Scouts Need You!
We are looking for an experienced individual to be our new contact for the Think Family Scheme.
If you are someone who cares about ensuring that every child and young person gets a good start in life and can look forward to a brighter future why not get involved with helping Horsham Scouts participate fully in the Think Family project or if you know someone who would do a great job, please contact by e-mail;

5th/10th Beaver Scouts - Community Week

Beavers from 5th/10th Horsham Weald Scout Group - Brooker Colony rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in to a wood clearance project to support a local pre-school.
The pre-school has recently started a Forest School where young children have the opportunity to learn more about the outdoors.

Scouts including Beavers get to know the outdoors very well but for some children getting their feet wet and hands muddy or getting so close to nature is not so common place.

The Beaver Colony worked hard to remove weeds to allow other plants in Forest School area to grow through.

Well done Beavers for a good day's work!

5th/10th Community Challenge April 2014

On Saturday 26th April Scouts and Leaders from 5th/10th Horsham Weald Scouts spent four hours clearing litter, cutting back the undergrowth to open up the paths and collecting wood for a fire woodpile.
The  work at Kingslea Primary School was to improve the wooded area around the school field and to make the area more usable.

Nigel Powling (Scout Leader) said ".... it was good to get the Scouts involved in doing something for the local community and it also counted towards their Community Challenge Badge. The plan is to make this an annual event to help Kingslea Primary School and its pupils".

Well done to 5th/10th for taking the initiative to get involved with the community.
