Jamboree 2015 Japan
Tony Tunnell Jamboree Contingent Leader writes;
With just 8 days to go before we fly out to Japan, interest in the unit is growing and there have been several articles in local papers and the radio.
Please let us know if you see any so we can share with others.
After 2 years of preparation, we are ready and we are really looking forward to the experience we are going to have whilst out in Japan.
If you would like to follow our journey, our “less restricted” Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/groups/westsussex2015/ will be where we post to from 23rd July to 11th August, so if you are not a member, please do request to join as soon as possible so you don’t miss out on any important updates.
If the participants are taking mobile phones, we are also asking them to post to this page so that everyone back in West Sussex has a more rounded view of what we are all getting up to.
We also have a twitter feed @Yewnity which you are welcome to follow if you use this social media instead.
We seem to have created a National Competition between units to see how quickly the unit can get into a group photo position – I think we currently hold the record at 12 seconds, but there are other units hot on our heels so we are going to have to practise more.
At our last meeting at Lodge Hill, all the young people wrote some quotes to be used by the HQ Media people. Here are just some of them…..
"It was Streamside where we started working as a team rather than just individuals” - Streamside was our second camp in July 2014
“It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about the preparation, the camping or the Young People; it’s all been awesome”
“I can’t wait to make new friends and connect with them online when I get back”
“I’m really excited for HoHo, learning about a new culture and seeing what they do"
May I thank you for all your support over the last two years. It has been such an exciting journey and we still have the big adventure to come.

The Charity
Megan has been selected to attend the 23rd
World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015 as part of the UK contingent fees
fund individual costs and help youths from LDC's to attend.
In Japan, cross-cultural learning, looking at the environment,
development, human rights, health, science and technology. A peace
programme culminating in a trip to Hiroshima. Working closely with the
local community. It is an extraordinary experience for everyone
involved, providing them with something that will stay with them for
life, as well as building strong ties with Scouts from other countries.
The Training
If only.......
Hikes and cycle rides have been completed to prepare. Box Hill in Surrey was a good place to get used to the gradients.
How can you help?
The following link to Mountain Warehouse is a Three Peaks Challenge
competition to receive votes. The majority voted link will receive £5000
which Megan would put straight in to the Jamboree and give back the
money donated by 5/10. It’s easy to vote but we need a few hundred votes
to win.
The link below is to the 5/10 Virgin Just Giving site where Megan has a
page for people to donate money for her climbing the Three Peaks.

23rd World Jamboree Fundraising
Summer 2015 will see thousands of Scouts from around the world gather to go to the 23rd Scout World Jamboree.
A contingent of 36 Scouts and 4 Leaders from Scout Groups across the West Sussex will head off to Japan in August 2015. In Horsham 7 young people and 1 adult have been selected to join the contingent. The Horsham Scouts now have just eighteen months to plan and run a series of fund raising activities.
Prices have risen considerably in the last sixty six years. The 1947 Jamboree in France cost £17 per member. The challenge for each member is to raise £3000.

When they reach Japan, the Scouts will take part in a series of events encouraging cross-cultural learning. Along with looking at the environment, development, human rights, health, science and technology, there is a peace programme culminating in a trip to Hiroshima. They will be reaching out to and working closely with the local community. The Scouts will be representing the best of Horsham and bringing back their knowledge to our community. It is an extraordinary experience for everyone involved, providing them with something that will stay with them for life, as well as building strong ties with Scouts from other countries.
In addition to raising money for the trip, they must take small, easy to pack items with them. It is a Japanese tradition to offer a gift to whoever they meet. We have been very fortunate that local printers, J R Print, will provide 100 business cards for each participant, but we would still welcome additional offers to help. In a country where respect and tradition is important, we want our young representatives to shine.
The Scouts are aware of their responsibilities; they will represent the best of Horsham by doing ‘Their Best’. The next eighteen months will see them and their families working hard and making sacrifices to make the most of this golden opportunity.
However they do need support, be it donations of resources, services or money. Whatever you can do to help, we would very much welcome your support.
